How do I best build a fence that looks like the one in the picture below? I'm mainly thinking about how to attach it to the posts so that they look integrated.

White picket fence with vertical slats and posts, set on a grassy lawn with trees in the background.

That fence involves a lot of dowels and dowel holes to make it good and durable.
If you are not used to doing it, I recommend a call to a local carpentry.

The big question is, who will paint it?

It's the eternal question that is always forgotten. It's just a pity that pressure-treated wood looks so ugly that you have no choice.

It's a misery.

My wife has demanded a fence around the entire property, and it's a long stretch, and I calculated how many gazillion posts there are to paint. Not fun.

But even worse is painting them the second, third, and fourth time a few years later.......ugh.

mmm. The neighbor who usually parks their car on the street outside will probably be very happy then...

You can hang the fence pieces on the posts according to the attached sketch. In each post, there is a (through?). The fence pieces are constructed so that there is an upside-down U that fits precisely over the pipe. You insert the fence piece from the side and then lower it over the pipe stubs. Diagram showing fence attachment to posts with inverted U-shaped sections fitting over pipes, including side and longitudinal views. (The sketch of the fence piece is not exactly to the same scale as the post.)

If you build the fence as NoiseMaker suggests, you can do the painting elsewhere.

Otherwise, you can simply ask the neighbor to move the car on the day you paint, avoid painting if it's windy, and use a tarp as spray protection behind.

Exactly! I meant to write that but forgot.

Do you paint the annual shoots too? :)

You may find similar PVC fences to buy. I have cycled past one that looks like PVC. That way, you won't have to paint.

No, but now it's time to cut every stick to 2cm length......however, it's less work than painting the fence....:)
