I have watched a number of different TV programs that show how people renovate/build in the UK. I noticed that there isn't much insulation in the walls and they don't seem to care about how bathrooms are built. Not once have I seen anything resembling a moisture barrier in wet areas. Almost 90% lay "carpets" everywhere! Even in bathrooms! Are there no industry regulations there?
Only regarding construction/strength and electricity do they have regulations...
Wooden floors are also very common in England in bathrooms. Generally speaking, abroad people aren't as hysterical when it comes to moisture and mold; sure, a water leak is good to fix, but mostly because it results in an expensive water bill otherwise, not because of what it causes. I have relatives who live in Malta and the USA, and there you just wipe away any mold now and then, but only when it's a matter of construction damage or cosmetic damage (water stains) do they start doing something about it.
It's mostly the demands from insurance companies here that fuel our hysteria, and then the industry has jumped on more than willingly because they can sell/build according to regulations and make more money...
