Hi!

I have a Samsung Frame TV. We are currently expanding the house.

The TV should go up on a new wall in the new section. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to build it into the wall?

I still need to be able to control my Apple TV, unfortunately.

Initially, I thought of just having a "regular wall" with drywall and attaching the TV to it, using a TV bench. But it would be fun to do something different now that we have the chance.

I hope someone has done something or has an idea. Thanks in advance / Fredrik

Personally, I would never build in a TV as a permanent part of a wall. Fast forward five to ten years, and you'll want completely different things for the purpose.

Would never build in, but you can make it look a bit nicer even with wall-mounted. I recommend placing a simple power outlet behind the TV and an extra box with a 32mm VP pipe that goes straight down to another box behind where you place the TV stand. This way, you avoid having visible cables coming down from the TV. I managed to fit three HDMI cables and a network cable in a 32mm pipe.

Put up Plywood or OSB instead. It's easy to attach wall mounts to it (otherwise you might need to put a 60cm plywood to the studs so you don't have to hope that molly in the plasterboard holds)...

Good suggestion!

Here's how I created a channel between the TV bench and the TV and an outlet behind the TV.

Note that I haven't made any hole in the channel on the wall yet since I only have a Chromecast connected to the TV. But should there be more devices in the future, the option is there.

I also added extra studs where the TV mount would be installed.

Wall insulation with wooden studs and a channel in progress for TV cables. A ruler measures sections. No hole for the channel yet. Cables connected to a wall outlet with a TV mount setup nearby, illustrating a media connection solution without a visible wall channel opening.

On another interior wall with a panel, I have also cut out a square in the panel and installed a TV mount in the recess that is 45mm deep + the panel thickness and added some trim around to tidy up the edges of the hole.
So when the TV is fully pushed in, it sits flush with the wall and all cables, etc., fit into the recess in the wall. The depth is approximately as much as the TV mount extends in depth when fully retracted.
If you also leave room for power outlets and network outlets in this recess, a "the Frame" TV would truly look like a painting since nothing would be visible.

Now the question pertains to a Samsung Frame. Not much more to do than to mount it on the wall with the special bracket. Since there is only a single cable, it's quite simple to run it through a conduit from the TV to the control box. No electrical outlets are needed behind the TV.

Might as well make sure the conduit is large enough for HDMI as well. Power can also be run through the conduit if it was skimped on during construction.

Just keep in mind that the connection to the frame is slightly larger than a regular HDMI connection.

Thanks for the input!! Awesome!

Probably going to have a tube in the wall. Easy to put in and suits all types of TVs, sort of.

But how the heck do I get around not having a TV bench when I need both the hard drive (for TV) and Apple TV?

Has anyone solved this in a stylish way? Prefer not to make a thicker wall with, for example, a built-in shelf.

Regardless of whether it is needed for that model or not, I would still install a power outlet behind it to future-proof. It won't be visible anyway.

Won't it look odd without some form of furniture under the TV? Can you share some form of sketch or floor plan?

You frame it so that behind the TV there's a recess in the wall as deep as the width of the wall studs you build with. Then you get a recess in the wall where you can place your gadgets. You also set your electrical outlets in this recess. This way, you can mount the TV flush against the wall, and it will hide the hole you've made. See attached picture. Just make the hole smaller, like 30 * 30, and it should work.

  • In-wall speakers and outlets with framed recess for television installation in a drywall surface.
I always run a 50mm drain pipe down to the outlet under the floor. It's perfect to insert a box and put a cover if it's not in use. No outlets at all behind the TV; instead everything is routed down to the floor.

we built a closet in the wall behind the TV, we placed the media computer and consoles there, Bluetooth goes through the wall without any problem. But the main reason was that we needed more space, but it's nice to avoid the TV stand and cables.

What do you have on the other side of the wall you plan to hang the TV on? Do you have space there to utilize?

I have just ordered a Frame myself and I'm waiting to receive it. Fortunately, I have a closet behind the wall where the TV will be mounted, so I plan to set up a shelf in there for the one connect box, router, Telia box, and all other equipment needed to watch TV and movies. A hole in the wall behind the TV to run the one connect cable is the only thing I need to do.
