We are going to update the kitchen a bit, including replacing the tiles with mosaic. In connection with this, we want to place the mosaic higher than where the tiles are today. My problem is how to place it around the window. We plan to go about 1/3 up in height along the window with mosaic, but how do you handle the window frame? I imagine the interior lining will be wood on the sides and mosaic at the bottom.

Like this:
Window surrounded by mosaic tiling reaching one-third up the sides; interior casing with wood on the sides and mosaic below.

or like this:
Illustration of a window with a plan to tile around it. Mosaic tiling covers 1/3 of window height, with ideas for wood trim on sides and mosaic below.

Or in a completely different way?

I think you should have the same trim around the entire window, even along the underside.
I believe it will look best that way.
Like this:

There is klackfoder.
With some planing and sawing, you can adjust the "depth" so it fits different wall thicknesses.
Unless you want to play with filler strips, which would probably be cheaper :)

Do I make myself understood :o

Measure and measure again to see if you can adjust the lining so it lies against the mosaic.
Place the mosaic first with centering in the middle of the window and extend the lining towards the mosaic.
Or place the lining on the mosaic and attach a trim corresponding to the mosaic on the outside of the lining.

Well, I don't really believe in that :). Today we have tiles that end just at the bottom of the window, and we only have moldings on the sides and top, and it looks perfectly fine. Also, we have the kitchen faucet right by the window, and it's barely 20 cm from the countertop to the bottom of the window, so a wooden molding would quickly look bad there.

OK, so you prefer my first picture where the trim "goes down into the mosaic"?
Laying the trim on the mosaic I don't think will be as good in that case, as it will create an open end at the bottom of the trim.
