If you live with a "murare", the thing is a done deal... but if you don't and want reasonably straight walls, plasterboard is a good alternative. "Murare" is a craft profession that is difficult for a layman to master, especially if it involves large areas.
 
Surely you prefer to screw a little sparse rather than using a plug for drywall screws! Then the fact that it protrudes... Does 2.8 cm really make that much of a difference?
