I'm trying to figure out how many bags of smoothing compound I might need but having a hard time finding information on how many m3 one bag provides.

I will need approximately 0.31m3 of smoothing compound as the room is 15.5m2 and an average of 20mm elevation of the floor is needed.

Does anyone know roughly how many bags that might be, who has a bit better insight?

You should check the specific self-leveling compound you're going to use, they usually specify something like 1.7kg per/m2 and mm.. Text details for screed product, includes workability time, coverage, drying conditions, consumption rate, flow capacity, and compressive strength C30.

Once you've chosen a brand, it should be stated on the bag. But maybe 10-15 liters per bag.

Why not read the specification on the packaging. It definitely states how to calculate this.

Get 40 bags, expect to mix at least 30.

It should be enough to buy 30 and mix a maximum of 25, but we'll see when you're finished.
