I'm working on an extension with loose timber. I haven't built much before. I've learned most of it by reading here on the forum and watching YouTube. I've done most of the work myself (the foundation) but had help from a handy neighbor with the framing. The neighbor didn't think scaffolding was needed, so I hadn't thought much about it. Today, my mom visited and was shocked that we didn't have scaffolding. She also talked to her partner who is an old carpenter. Apparently, he thought I was insane for not having scaffolding.

If you look at the picture, where around the extension would scaffolding be most useful? Is it good to have scaffolding on wheels that can be moved around or stationary scaffolding? I'm not keen on renting since it will need to stand for a long time. It doesn't go very fast because I mostly work alone and I'm not very quick as I have to think through every step. The next step is to lay the raw boards and tar paper, as planned.

The arrow points to some planks I've put up to walk on up there when I was screwing something.

The censored person is my wife who got jealous when I was up in the "play area" and she insisted on going up too.

Should you have any professionals on the scaffolding, it must be constructed with certification from a trained scaffolder.

I would say that around the entire extension is the right way, but that's not what you wanted to hear...

Buy a second-hand one and sell it when you're done. That's what I did, and it doesn't get so expensive.

Scaffolding significantly eases the process! It's perfectly fine to build one in "loose timber." Maybe I'm worrying unnecessarily, but the truss resting right over the large opening (double doors?) - I feel that there should have been a wider load-bearing beam or that the current dimension should be doubled. In your position, I would have embedded a 45*170 edgewise right above the door opening.
