Bought Herdins Fuktstopp, which is potassium silicate and sodium silicate, also known as water glass, to apply to an old concrete staircase with exposed concrete. The purpose is to reduce the moisture entering the staircase during rain and other weather conditions. The description of how to apply it is a bit vague, but it mentions using a brush or roller, etc., twice.
I used a brush. The first time, it absorbed into the concrete like pouring water on it. I waited an hour and did it again; it then turned into a white paint/foam that slowly disappeared. I was a bit worried at first; it almost looked like soap foam. But now it looks good again, meaning the water glass is not visible.
The question now is - how do I know that the stairs are saturated? Is there a good way to know how it's supposed to behave then? I want to achieve maximum protection but not have a layer of water glass on top that hasn't sunk into the concrete and then needs to be sanded away. I'm a bit uncertain if I should apply it one more time.
