Hello,

I'm quite new to construction and carpentry but would like to get better at it.

Attached you can see some pictures of the balcony door in my apartment where the sealant/silicone seems to be coming off, which looks unsightly and bad.

How do you repair this, and what type of sealant should be used?

Background: The apartment is only 2 years old and I think it's a bit early for the sealant to be coming off. What do you think?

Thanks in advance!

  • Finger pointing at peeling sealant around a balcony door frame, highlighting a potential issue with the aging or application of the sealant.
Use a good acrylic sealant, silicone is for aquariums (possibly bathrooms)

Since the apartment is only 2 years old, I think you should speak with the board and possibly the neighbors. Normally, such things are covered in the construction companies' warranty and they will address it for free.

It has probably happened because the building has settled a bit, which is normal during the first years.

Got it! Which acrylic sealant do you recommend? 😀
