Hello!

I am going to attach OSB boards to studs and am wondering if it's just like attaching drywall when it comes to the distance between screws? What were the measurements again? Which screws should be used, since drywall screws aren't needed for this, right?

When it's time to put on the drywall, how should I think when screwing it? Should it be screwed through the OSB and into the studs as well? Same screw distance?

Thanks in advance!

S
To fasten OSB, use board screws or chipboard screws. Screw until they are up and take a little more, similar to a drywall sheet. Better one too many than one too few.

The plaster should only be attached to the OSB, not to the studs.

You should use a screw with a smaller head for OSB.

You can use a drywall screw, but those of slightly lower quality will break if you drive the screw in the middle of a "splinter" in the OSB. If you place it at a joint between two splinters in the board, the screw usually holds.

For the drywall, you then use short drywall screws (30mm max), and you screw as usual. It's usually spaced at cc20 on the edge and a bit sparser in the middle.

And start with a half gypsum board then you offset the joints against the OSB.

Thank you for the quick and good answers! (y) :)

All shelves must be screwed into the studs.

Well, it depends on what the manufacturer recommends. For example, Norgips writes "When installing wood-based boards behind plasterboards, the plasterboards should be screwed into the frame."

To attach gypsum to, for example, OSB, longer drywall screws (41 mm) are used, screwed at 200 mm intervals on the outer edges and 300 mm in the middle.
Then you can discuss how many screws are needed for the first construction sheet!
Note: OSB should be mounted with a few millimeters gap between the boards.

Oh, I have to correct myself. Read the instructions from the manufacturer :)

Yes, all layers of building boards should be screwed into the studs (y)

In this case with plaster on OSB, what is the main reason for wanting to screw into both layers? I think I have successfully done both.

Check out the link a few lines up.

I have checked it. It says:

When the long side joint of the gypsum ended up between the studs and the chipboard moved, apparently the reinforcement in the joint couldn't handle it and the boards started to sag, so now we screw all the gypsum screws into the studs. I guess it's because the boards become more like a solid thick board now or something,

I find it a bit hard to understand how this is supposed to work. Let's say I space studs cc60 for the OSB and then the offset gypsum long joint ends up between the studs so that the long joint is not screwed into any stud. How could this be a problem? I wonder if the person in that thread is describing a solution to a different problem.

I'm not saying that the one who says the gypsum should be screwed into the stud is wrong, I just don't understand why, still.
