Hello!

I want to install a simple door hatch in the wall, so one can access the crawl space, and with it all pipes, the water shut-off, etc. in a much simpler way, instead of having to run outside, around the entire house, crawl in through a door, crawl through an 80x80cm hatch, etc.

What I want to do is install a simpler door hatch (something like https://www.byggmax.se/vagglucka-clickfix-56-wh-dolle-p68721633#1574=106661) but my question is quite simple.

How do I cut the wall open? Hammer drill and then knock it out? Reciprocating saw?

The wall is not load-bearing, it was added after the house was built.

  • Corner of a room with white textured walls and a small, square opening near the ceiling under a light.
  • Close-up of a textured concrete wall surface with horizontal grooves, possibly part of a non-load-bearing wall being considered for a doorway installation.
  • Close-up of a rough, white-painted concrete wall with visible texture, showing an opening possibly intended for wall hatch installation.
Rent a concrete saw with a large blade or alternatively drill a hell of a lot of holes and chisel or sledgehammer away.

Hello,

I'm going to tackle this. Does it work with a hammer drill, lots of holes, chisel away? If that's the case, is there anything specific to think about? Nothing is load-bearing or anything.

I'm thinking you drill in a bit, chisel away, remove it, then put up the "door" and trim?

It will probably be very difficult with an impact drill, try to get hold of a rotary hammer instead.

Hammer drill with a long bit. Then sledgehammer.
