How do I know if there are wooden or steel studs in the wall?

I live in a late 70s mexitegel villa. I'm planning to put up a few hooks in the hallway and one hook will end up right over a stud. How do I know if there are wooden or steel studs in the wall?

Have you tried using a strong magnet?

It usually shows on the drill chips

Try drilling, then you'll notice what type of studs you have. Villa from the late 70s, I would think it's wood, but you can never be sure.

Thanks for the answers. I also suspect wood. Will try with a magnet, want to know before I drill.
