Hi! Probably a silly question here but how do I securely and best attach this screw hook/eye to our pergola's posts? (95x95)? I was planning to set up sun protection using steel wire. I don't want to accidentally damage the wooden post in the process. Should I pre-drill? Or just screw it in gently by hand?

Best regards

It's never wrong to pre-drill with a bit that's slightly smaller than the diameter inside the threads. In a 95 post, I think it's difficult to crack the post with such an eyelet, but it may become very tough to screw it in without drilling.

If you have delicate fingers, it is recommended to use this bit for the screwdriver
Driver bit for screwdriver with hooks, screws, and wing nuts on a white background, recommended for protecting sensitive fingers.
or this one
T-shaped screwdriver bits suitable for drill, recommended for delicate fingers.

I would pre-drill. If it then becomes difficult to screw in, I usually just thread a screwdriver through the loop and turn, that usually suffices.
