I am going to join studs with the size 120x45 at a 90-degree angle. It will be a frame for a door. I was thinking of using a half-lap joint. I recall seeing a discussion in this forum (possibly another forum) that describes a simple method to achieve 90 degrees in each joint but cannot find it.

Does anyone have a good tip on how to do this?

Right now I plan to build the frame on a large table I have and use the corners of the table as the angle. A couple of clamps to hold the studs.

Am I on the right track or do you have better suggestions?

I may be misunderstanding which angles you mean, but a reliable method is to measure the diagonals in the frame. If they are the same length, the corners are also 90 degrees, provided that both long sides are equal in length and both short sides are equal in length.
 
That was indeed a variant. It feels entirely right as a control measurement. I have seen hörnspännare but the ones I have seen are too small for my needs.

However, I shall measure.
 
An alternative to the table corner.

I have one or a couple of backsides for IKEA kitchen cabinets standing.
They are cut at the right angle, and are good to use when the angle square is too small.

Pythagoras can indeed be used in larger contexts to check an individual angle.

...and a good cheat sheet for Pythagorean theorem that even I manage to keep in mind is the 3-4-5 method. One side 3/30/300cm, the other 4/40/400cm, and the hypotenuse (spelling?) 5/50/500cm. If it doesn't fit, you can double all the measurements to 6-8-10 and so on.

In the good old days, before calculators existed, we had booklets with calculation tables instead, there was a table with these Egyptian triangles in the booklet. The idea was that the Egyptians used them when they built their pyramids during the era of the pharaohs. The pyramids have a square base, which everyone is probably familiar with :rolleyes: 3, 4, 5 is the simplest, but there are more.
