Home theater room in the basement
Hi! I'm about to start a project in the basement. The idea is to use the room for a home theater. I have some concerns when it comes to renovating the basement, considering moisture problems, etc. Currently, the floor is painted, and the paint is starting to peel in places. You should not paint the floors with a type of plastic paint like the one on the floor. The question is how should I proceed to be able to install a new floor, preferably wall-to-wall carpet! I have found something called Platon (isola.se) that you lay on the floor and then you can lay floorboards on it, has anyone used this before and do you think you can lay carpet on the floor without moisture and mold problems? Other solutions are welcome as the Platon mat is probably quite expensive. Should I scrape off the paint on the floor (so the floor breathes easier) before laying a new floor? As for the walls! Two walls are partially below ground, and the walls are plastered. Is it enough to frame with metal studs 5-10 cm from the wall? (the studs against the ceiling and floor are provided with rubber strips to prevent vibrations from being transmitted out of the room) There is also Platon mat for the walls that you can put up before framing. I'd prefer to avoid Platon on the walls as it would be cheaper without it. What happens when I insulate the wall, if I build as above, there is about a 5-10 cm air gap between the insulation and the outer wall, is this enough? How should I mount the insulation so that it doesn't end up against the outer wall after a year or two? Should I attach plastic or something else on the back of the studs? For the other two walls, I thought of just mounting the studs flush against the wall and then insulating with two layers of drywall. Should I leave an air gap between the new wall and the ceiling and floor? How do I do this when the studs are attached to the ceiling? Grateful for help! Best regards, Johan
Hello and thank you for your reply! I was also considering that, but at the same time, I thought it might be better for the floor to breathe a little! It will probably be more comfortable and warmer if I put something between the floor and the carpet! The ceiling is not very high, so I don't want to raise the floor too much! The house was built in 1939, I forgot to mention earlier!
Wanegardh, thanks for your tip, but I think there's something wrong with my profile! The first post I wrote, I divided the text into walls and floors and wrote as spaciously as possible to make it easy to read. But every time I post, all the text comes out as if I haven't used enter even once! It's probably happening now too. Does anyone know why? Kvistarn2Sounds interesting, where did you buy your "grass"? However, I want to insulate and plaster because I don't want the sound to bounce off hard walls! Best regards
ok, thought it would dampen a bit with double gypsum, but maybe it only dampens outside the room. Might have to hang a heavy wallpaper or something! It will probably be a bit warmer and more comfortable if I insulate and drywall!
