Hello!

I have had fiber (internet) installed in the house and will start running the new cables from the new starting point to the devices that need internet access. Since I'm not ready to take down a lot of drywall to make a seriously nice installation, I thought I'd simply tack the cables along the ceiling moldings. However, I encountered the following problem:

I've asked at a number of hardware stores, but apparently, there is no smooth way to run a cable through a drywall without breaking the drywall, installing cable boxes, and then patching it all up again. The only option is to saw into the door frames so that the cables can fit that way, but that feels like an even less good idea than knocking down all the drywall on the walls.

So how do you run a cable through the wall? I have considered ventilation ducts, but since the wall is only 5 cm thick, I can't make that solution work. The simplest solution might be to just drill a hole, but since new cables may be added, it feels a bit inflexible.

Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance
Roland

I don't understand! Why would you need to "knock down all the drywall"? If you just want the cable through the wall, you only need to drill a hole the same size as the cable. If you want to install boxes, there are "retrofit boxes" that you can mount afterward. I don't think I quite understand what you want to do or what the problem is... :blushing:

I don't really get it either. Do you want to run the cable through the wall or in the wall? There are baseboards that you can run cables in available for purchase.

I have the fiber cable coming into the laundry room where there is a router and some other gadgets. From the laundry room, I need to run
3 network cables
1 telephone cable
and later also cables to the TV, but I'm not sure how to solve these, it could be two or three more network cables since I don't think a regular antenna cable is used for IPTV in HD quality.

What I want to do is get these cables out of the laundry room without having to saw into the door frame. If I can just get the cables from one room to the next, I know how to proceed, but running a bundle of cables seems to be an entirely unknown art at the hardware stores.

Kind regards,
Roland

The solution suggested by a store was to "dunka ner gipset" to be able to install cable boxes creatively and thereby route wires from one room to the next.

Isn't it just to drill a hole in the wall then? Then you can glue in a suitable pipe if needed. There are thick electrical conduits, but really you can use any pipe.

Consider whether it might be smoother to just run a network cable from the laundry room to a switch placed "somewhere closer to the computers."

Yes, some kind of pipe with a flange and lid might be what I'm looking for. What type of pipe would be suitable to use, it would be nice if it's possible to place something attractive over the hole as well.

You have no pipes with telecom cables in them that can be used? did so in our previous house. First pulled out the cables with a pull wire attached and then pulled everything back again with the network cable attached to the pull wire, but without connectors on.

Peter_K: There are no pre-made holes, no. I think I would prefer a larger one in front of several small ones. Especially since I can't swear today that more cables won't be added or maybe disappear when new technology arrives.

Alfredo: It probably can't get much closer to the computers since the laundry room is centrally located. Rather, it's really convenient to have the "semi-fixed" installation in a room where appearance is not so important.

OK, that sounds reasonable!

Depending on how thick the wall is, a standard electrical box from each side plus a cover plate or even an RJ45 outlet?
