I'm going to buy hinges for my new kitchen but can't wrap my brain around which variant is which :o The hinges are available in right and left versions. I thought it was that the right version meant the hinges are on the right side of the door panel, and vice versa (closed door panel). But when I see this picture on http://www.kulturbeslag.se:

5076.gif

the description of the picture states that it is the right version shown. This leads me to think that the right version means the panel is on the right of the hinge... i.e. what I thought was the left version  So should I think that right version = hinge on left side, left version = hinge on right side?

Isn't it the case with the fitting in the picture that the door is mounted on the right part, which is then folded to the left, over the left part? That is, right-hinged.

Right-hinged means that the hinges are on the right side of the door as seen from the side where you can see the hinges, i.e., the same side from which you open the door.

I'm beginning to believe that when a hinge is described as "right-handed," it is not the same as a door being "right-hung."

But how can a right-hand design ever hang to the left on the left door?

If the above hinge (which is a right-hand version) were to be mounted on the right side of a door, it would fall to the floor (the door, that is)? Or am I having a complete brain meltdown?

As I see the picture, the left part of the hinge is screwed to the cabinet, and the right part to the door. When the door is closed, the hinge is on the right side, which makes it a right-hung door. And it won't fall to the floor when you open it, will it?

I think it seems right. But I may be wrong.

Only for monitoring, difficult problems should be solved with competence. (not meant maliciously)

Talked to Kulturbeslag who manufacture the hinges above and the answer was, as assumed, that hinges in right-hand design = right-hung door. I myself can't make sense of this with the picture above, but I simply have to attribute it to my incompetence in interpreting the picture! :)

Imagine that you take the right part of the hinge and fold it over the left part.

The left part of the hinge is attached to the cabinet, and the right part to the door. Close the door, and you stick out the hinge on the right side of the door that you open towards you, right-hinged that is... :)
