We have just bought a house (built in 1926) where the chimney has been enclosed behind "regular" walls.

Very unfortunate in my opinion, as I love an open fire, especially in a house this old.
The previous owner had a pellet system in the house before switching to district heating, so there are currently some sort of pipes in the chimney.

I want to highlight the chimney and install an open fireplace/inset stove, and I'm wondering if anyone knows what needs to be done. I naturally understand that a chimney sweep company must approve and fix this in the end.

I assume the easiest way is to simply contact the company that installed the pellet system and get help from them, but maybe there's someone here who has some sensible input?
