I would like to hear what someone who has seen old isolated pipes with asbestos has to say about the ones I have in the basement.
The plumber did not seem uncomfortable with cutting into the insulation anyway. But I myself am pondering a bit considering the family, will contact a cleaning company as soon as possible for testing, but it would be interesting to hear what you think.
At least I don't see any powdery substance, and the plumber has still cut very close.

Insulated pipes in a basement, possibly containing asbestos, with some exposed copper pipes. Concern about safety and possible asbestos contamination. Insulated pipes in a basement ceiling, possibly containing asbestos; a plumber has cut the insulation close to the pipe connections. Old insulated pipe in a basement, possibly containing asbestos. The insulation appears intact, with no visible dust. Nearby cut section visible. Pipes in a basement with white insulation, suspected to contain asbestos. Plumber recently cut near the insulation. No powder visible.

How old is it?

What you are showing is glass wool.
So, don't get too worked up. The worst-case scenario is itching.
Happy New Year.

Usually, there is asbestos in the pipe bends.

Anyone have a good picture of pipes where asbestos has been found? I read a bit in other threads but didn't quite understand how it was used back in the day. From what I've read, it seems like it was sometimes used on top of the gauze, sometimes it's packed directly against the pipe, and sometimes as a paste around the end of the insulation. I might have encountered the last one with the paste since it looks familiar to me (but it could also have been paint slopped on the insulation).

But when I compare my pictures with pictures where people claim to have found asbestos, I feel like my pipes look more like they're insulated with regular insulation, but that's probably why it's easy to miss it.

The plumber cut close to a bend and near a drain tap, if there was something in the bend or the tap, shouldn't you see something of this?

I read somewhere that you can't say 100% that there is asbestos in the insulation just based on age and gauze since it could have been used in regular insulation as well, so how common is asbestos?
