I have a wall panel in the garage that I'm unsure of the material (see image). It is partially torn off after we changed the garage door last year. Grateful if someone can identify this:
The panel is closest to the door and seems to be more resistant to moisture than regular drywall. It would be great to have something more durable here, so I would appreciate any suggestions on what I should replace it with
The color of the break may suggest some form of fiber cement. But there are some grains of some sort in the break. Some old plasterboards have mixed in sawdust, but this is likely some form of old fiber cement. Maybe fiber cement mixed with sawdust. Plasterboards always have layers of cardboard/paper on the surfaces. Otherwise, they wouldn't hold. Fiber cement is also significantly heavier than plasterboards. Old fiber cement similar to Eternit can contain asbestos fibers and must be wetted to prevent dust, and a respirator is recommended if you’re doing the demolition yourself. In that case, carefully place the debris in plastic bags that are tightly tied.
