Heating outdoor-air ventilated crawl space?
I have an outdoor air-ventilated crawl space (Hjältevadshus 1998). The house stands mostly on stone and gravel, on which the foundation beams rest. The foundation beams are insulated with 45mm of foam plastic on the inside, otherwise, there is no insulation to speak of. The ground is covered with age-resistant building plastic. The subfloor is made of hardboard.
During the summer, I had quite high humidity levels inside the crawl space. To date, I have not had any general problems with either odor or visible mold growth down in the crawl space.
To my question. I currently have two servers in the garage that generate a lot of heat. Since it can reach up to 30°C inside the garage during summer with these running, I have a duct fan that expels the air from the garage when it exceeds 24°C. Intake air into the garage through regular fresh air vents.
From the garage, there is a conduit leading into the crawl space. Can I take the warm air generated in the summer and direct it into the crawl space (which is currently ventilated with outdoor air)? Or am I doing myself a disservice by doing this? My thought is that the significantly warmer air contains less moisture and that I should then be able to lower the relative humidity in the crawl space.
