As I wandered around the house hoping I'd suddenly start cleaning, I noticed how well the rain could be heard in the bedroom most exposed on the gable corner..

That's not how I want it; it shouldn't be noisy in the bedroom when it rains..

I had just decided to sacrifice another bedroom for an office/library, but now I almost have to consider sacrificing this larger, but noisier room instead. Not fun for the one who has to live in a noisy room... hehe

Solutions?

If the sound is solely/primarily caused by rain falling directly into the downspout, it is possible to place a sheet of metal as a "roof" over the hole, attached to the gutter.

If there is rain accumulating and dripping hard, you can attach a small metal plate, string, or chain that the water can follow so that it doesn't fall.
