Hello!

I am planning to remove a couple of windows / doors in an "old" 70s house in the exterior wall, where a sliding door will be installed.

I had someone quickly calculate how large a beam I need, and he said that a HEA 240 will be more than sufficient! I would never dare to take a chance and use something smaller if he says so, but I personally feel that it seems a bit oversized! To avoid building out the wall too much, it would be better with an IPE beam. If I just compare HEA 240 directly (only values), I think an IPE 300 would almost match HEA 240. Ideally, an IPE 270 would be perfect in my case! Can anyone calculate if a HEA 240 is a bit over the top and whether I can manage with an IPE 270? (I don't want to be on the edge, though)! I could also fit an IPE 300.

Best regards,
Christian
