The hatches to the attic space in our daughter's future room are not attached with hinges but are simply lifted into place. They are quite heavy, made from 45x45 timber and OSB + gypsum. I'm a bit concerned that they might fall out one day unexpectedly. Does anyone have any tips on how to securely fasten them while still allowing access to the space behind? Preferably without visible fittings on the outside.
Screw maybe?
Some form of turnbuckle so maybe you can just modify the cover that is attached but prevent it from coming off so easily!?

Instead of making holes as big as you normally have on doors, about 10mm holes are enough for a handle that you insert and open with.
There are strips around the hatch, so the hinges work poorly. Ball casters should work. I'm not looking for a solution completely without fittings, as I wrote before, but more with the smallest possible fittings. Some form of knob that locks against the bar behind. But where can you find ones that are long enough?
