I'm planning to divide a larger room with a ridge beam and an open ceiling into two rooms. The architect suggested it would be better to lower the ceiling to a normal room height of 2.3m in both rooms. So, maintain the existing ridge beam supporting the outer roof and hang a ceiling underneath.
Since the outer roof and its construction won't change, it only needs to support what's inside, i.e., the ceiling and insulation. The current span is about 6m, and it will be about 2.5 + 3.5 when finished.
Any suggestions on how to do this? I would prefer not to have a load-bearing interior wall, but maybe that would be the easiest option?
