I am going to hang a 22kg 55" TV on the wall. The wall is 130cm wide but it sounds like there are only studs on the edges and not in the middle. I'm unsure if it is double drywall or single sheet. You can drill and see how far you get inside, though.
Since no stud was found and the TV is meant to hang like a painting with some string-like material on the back, it will be held up with two clip-like brackets with a screw in the middle of each. So 22kg will be supported by 2 screws that are quite close together (about 20cm).
I got the TV from my brother as he is going away now and he had thrown away something for the stand, so the only option is to hang it up.
Since I have no idea what screws can support weight-wise, I'm wondering if you know what I can use?
In short, 2 screws with 20cm apart need to support 22kg with probably single drywall and no stud (unless there's a metal stud) in the middle. Only on the edges.
As large as possible, M5 or M6. Measure where you will have the mounts, drill a small hole with a 3 mm drill bit and check the depth, i.e., whether it's single gypsum or double gypsum. Then buy an expander for the correct number of boards. Then drill out the hole to the correct size. An M6 expander holds over 25 kg.
#5, 6 thank you! If it turns out there's no stud in the middle (can't attach the brackets there even if there were).
I read that you can attach a board or similar, 20-30 cm high and as wide as the wall, so it can be screwed into the studs there? The TV is as wide as that section of the wall, so if you put a board there it wouldn't be visible!
Thinking about the plasterboard. But if you say that maybe an M6 is enough directly on the plasterboard, maybe we'll go with that!
Then VESA gives the measurements in mm, but a 55" having VESA 200 sounds a bit small. VESA 400 would be more appropriate but that's probably not important here as it seems like TS got a mount with the TV.
+ that I believe there is a rule and then it's no problem to ensure the screw ends up in it. TS can take a magnet and slowly sweep over the wall about 60cm from the corners to find the screws that the drywall is fastened with.
