We are planning to fill up the truck and go to Estonia, Poland, and/or Germany to buy things that are significantly cheaper there, such as tile/clinker, machines.

Does VISA work at their building markets, for example, Praktiker.pl in Poland?

Will there be issues withdrawing from a credit line for foreign transactions?

What should one buy in which country to make the best deal?
What should one NOT buy in these countries?

Does anyone have a price list in .pdf format or similar from a store in any of these countries?
(Their websites don't seem to be up to Sweden's standards...)

Those of you who have shopped in any of these countries, feel free to write about the price differences, etc. Also, write about which stores or store chains you visited and how they were.

Are they completely unknowledgeable in English in all these countries?

Many questions, and surely there will be more! :)

Thanks in advance!

Hi

First, I must say that when you look at "building material websites" in Poland and materials in general, they are superior to Swedish sites. Almost all Polish companies with a website have their prices listed. So, they are far ahead of Sweden both in terms of the technical design of websites and the amount of information on their pages.

Regarding purchasing materials from other countries, you can read more here (I've written a bit myself):

Do you possibly still have links to any Polish companies that list prices online?

I haven't found a single one that has posted a price list, only promotional prices.

I'm also interested in Estonian prices, does anyone know how they compare to Polish/German ones?

(Links there would also be appreciated.)

In the other thread, it was mentioned that in Poland, Electrolux products cost 1/3 of the Swedish price, is that really true? *HOPE* ;D

The amount of information on Polish sites is hard for me to comment on since I don't know the language, so the prices are more interesting.

Now I have checked recommended prices from the importer in Poland against the cheapest on Pricerunner in Sweden, and I have set Zloty at 2 SEK as the exchange rate.

Retail prices in Poland are likely cheaper than the importer's recommended price...in other words, it should be EVEN cheaper in practice. :)

(Sadly, I only found prices for Gorenje....) :(

Great links!

We will definitely buy as much as we can in Poland as long as the warranty can be resolved. The question is whether customs will protest if you come home with a trailer full of various new kitchen equipment etc.?!

Does anyone know anything about that part?

They shouldn't really be able to have an opinion if you're driving between 2 EU countries?

Hello
Since I have a business in Latvia, I know a bit about how it works there. Most shops can be found in Riga, you can bargain, and many of the wholesalers have special prices on large quantities. You can search on www.wood-me.com; you can use Visa for 95% of transactions, but the cheapest way is to bring Swedish money and exchange it at currency exchange offices. But check carefully as there is a big difference in rates. The Baltics also have yellow pages where you can search, and www.doska.lv English.
Best regards,
Göthe

swede:

Do you know anything about the prices in Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, and Poland? Which one is the cheapest/most expensive, etc.?

Do they speak English in Latvia?

Maybe a silly question, but do Latvia and Lithuania also belong to the EU now?

If they are not in the EU, can one still pass through these countries with a car full of building materials on the way to Sweden?

(If you don't ask, you won't know anything!) :-[

We live in northern Sweden and therefore drive through Finland to avoid ferry fees.

Do you need to bring a passport? And a green card?
What does gas cost in these countries?

Hello
I know a little about these countries, I'll answer your questions
Yes, they speak English in Latvia
Yes, Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania, as well as Poland, are new members since May 1st
If you come with a truck and plan to fill it with goods, take the ferry, it's worth it
Passport and green card yes
If you're staying overnight in Riga, you can get a hotel for 80kr per night, just email me and I'll send a little address thing with pictures
Gasoline in Latvia is about 6.50 per liter
I can also ask my office in Riga to find some websites, but if you go to www.doska.lv you'll find a lot. Note, 1 lat is about 14kr
Best regards

Found my way to the Estonian K-rauta. They have a flyer at the link below. Found some items sold in Sweden:

Casco Aqua stop (waterproofing). Such a 10L bucket cost 469 EEK, i.e., just under 270 SEK. In Sweden, you can usually get such a bucket for 900 when it's on sale, I recall.

Bosch (blue) GSR 12V screwdriver: 2599 EEK (1480 SEK). Beijer sells it for 2375. My Estonian is not enough to determine if double batteries are included...

The file (3 MB) for those who want to read for themselves: http://157.144.0.166/modules/upload...UULI_kliendileht_ESTRUS_final.pdf?file_ID=614

Perfect! More links like that! :)

It would also be good if someone who understands the Estonian language could compare a few more prices between the Swedish and Estonian K-rauta.

Is there anyone who knows where ferries to Estonia depart from? I suspect they depart from Stockholm, but do they also go from places like Kalmar or Öland?

Please include links to the ferries if you have them. :)

Hello
They are going from Karlshamn

There seem to be a few different companies going to Estonia... anyone know the cheapest one?

How large a vehicle can you bring with a "car" ticket? Does it usually work with a light truck?
