I'm working on a countertop in the garage with a base of MDF that will be topped with a stainless steel sheet about 1mm thick.

Can I glue the sheet to the MDF board, and what type of adhesive is best?
Tube adhesive or something you apply with a roller?
I'm thinking that if you use a tube, the contact area is very small, whereas if you can roll out the adhesive, it would adhere across the entire surface.
Also, if you lay adhesive strips with a tube, I imagine it might be thick, so the sheet would just rest on the adhesive strips and not make contact with the MDF?
The sheet is bent up against the wall on the back and down in front of the MDF board on the front edge, so it's a bit loose and slightly warped on the countertop itself, so weights need to be placed to press down the sheet during the adhesive's curing time.

Does anyone have tips on execution?

I used an old bottle of regular wood glue that I spread out in an even layer with a piece of wood when I did the same project. However, with a flooring chipboard as a bench top, it has held up well for several years.

The more correct way is probably a few tubes of construction adhesive that you spread out evenly with a larger putty knife.

You spread the glue over the surface, however, you don't need to sacrifice a roller since you can spread most glues with a piece of wood or an old credit card.
I would just ask where you buy the glue what you should use, but wood glue usually adheres poorly to metal and will release if it happens to get warm.

Contact adhesive I would have used, it's available in spray bottles nowadays...

But you have to be very careful during assembly though...

Oh! A little excitement in life is always welcome.. :D

Edit: I also think there might be contact-type spray adhesive that you can spray on just one surface, allowing some time for adjustment..
