I have acquired a bunch of laminated beams (brand new) that were on their way to the dump. I was planning to build a wood-fired sauna on my property and thought these might come in handy.
When I look at the "small" pile and do some calculations, I see that I have enough to "log" the sauna.
My question is, can you LOG using laminated beams? I thought it would look really nice if it could be done with real joints and everything.
Well, from an economic standpoint too, since I already have all the beams on site.
Does it sound idiotic or could it work? I've searched online and haven't seen anyone do it, but it feels like you could get a solid cabin/sauna out of these beams.
Grateful for answers, preferably if someone has a link to a page.
Best regards,
Jagger

Of course, you can build with the beams. It resembles what many manufacturers of log cabins do, they also have laminated logs.
But isn't it more economical to sell the beams? Many need glulam for their houses.

I have sold those that can, I took care of the ones left over. I think I "saturated the market" in our little town.
I also considered taking a circular saw and cutting the edges a bit so they resemble timber more. Then you paint them like Faluröd.
Do you think you need any insulation/caulking between the beams? I thought maybe you wouldn't need it since they are completely straight and smooth.
Thanks for the answer.
