Glass block, freestanding partition

Hey!

We're considering building a room divider in our apartment, and we're thinking about glass blocks. However, we're wondering if it's possible to build a 2-meter high freestanding wall with glass blocks? Can it really hold, or do we need to anchor it to at least one wall for support?

There should be no problem if you reinforce with a couple of standing reinforcing bars between the glass concrete blocks.

I suppose I should anchor them firmly to the floor? Is it enough to drill holes and cast the iron in?

I would prefer flat iron instead, they don't build up much between the blocks, and become stiffer in the "breaking direction". If you want, you can then weld the flat iron with another flat iron at the bottom to create an upside-down T. You can then bolt this T to the floor to make it really stable.
You mentioned casting, do you have a concrete floor?

Yep, concrete under wooden floor. The wooden floor will be replaced/sanded, not really sure about the composition

If you are going to change the floor, you can bolt the T into the concrete and let the metal strips stick up in the gaps between the floorboards.
If you then in the future plan to build a wall instead, as you mentioned in the other thread, you can let the metal stay and screw the wall studs onto them.
