We are going to install a wrought iron gate on our driveway. However, the driveway has a slope (downhill towards the house), and now we are considering whether we should mount the gate at the same slope as the driveway or so that the gate stands straight.

What do you think?

Straight!
Anything else will look strange.

Straight, otherwise the gates will "fall open"

Thought of having them inward so they wouldn't touch the ground instead

I myself have a wrought iron gate on a slope that is straight. Then it stands to reason that it's not possible to use a slanted gate.

A skewed gate is ordered so that it can be used.
However, what works best depends on how it looks on site.

Of course the gate should lean 😝

Normally, though, you set it straight and have it open towards the downward slope...

Do people really do that?

Then it will be tilted when closed, which might not look so nice?

To avoid misunderstandings, which option do you advocate?

Comparison of two angles formed by a black line intersecting green lines; option 1 shows an angled line, option 2 shows a perpendicular line.

Clearly much easier on a slope that is straight.

I think option 2 is the nicest. If you have a leaning post, it will be difficult to open/close. I have built a leaning post to make gates self-closing.
