Considering setting up some type of gate where you enter the garden, so the dog doesn't escape onto the road and to reduce visibility a bit. I would like some suggestions on how to best do this.

Was thinking if something can be added to the existing privacy screen View of a wet driveway from a garden, with a white fence and a small hedge. Discussing the addition of a gate for privacy and to prevent a dog from escaping. Garden entrance with partial fencing and bushes near a patio, showing a potential spot for installing a gate to prevent dogs from escaping.

It should probably be the simplest option, as you suggest, to hang it on the existing privacy screen. If you think the end board is too weak, you can attach an extra brace to the end board as a "post" for the gate. Next to the hedge, you probably need to set up your own post, otherwise it might become rickety :) In some cases, a ground lock might suffice instead of a post (like a metal rod that goes down into a hole in the concrete slab, but it becomes trickier to open/close then... but you can make the metal rod high enough to reach the top edge of the gate

Gates that open both ways... any special name for these? Kind of like they spring back so they close by themselves.

Are you thinking of a saloon door and ignoring the gatepost by the hedge?
That's what came to my mind :)

That's what I was thinking of anyway :)
Yes, exactly :) So you can avoid the gate post by the hedge

have a self-closing gate and a strike plate of some kind on the outside at ground level on the hedge side. That way it's easy to get in, just open inward, but the dog can't push the gate open from the inside.
