Read in a previous thread about placing foam plastic under the beam layer and regular insulation above between the beams. I myself have a pillar foundation and have prepared to place a subfloor panel between the beams and regular insulation above. I'm now wondering if one can replace the panel with a layer of foam plastic between the beams and then regular insulation above.
 
You certainly can. The advantage of regular insulation is probably that moisture doesn't creep upward in it and that it can be fitted more tightly against the joists, so you avoid uninsulated pockets between the insulation and the beam.
