A machine that whips dish detergent with air and feeds the foam to a mixer with Portland cement doesn't seem terribly difficult?
The strength could be something to watch out for, though.
It’s been a while since the thread started in 2004 anyway
Well, the foam needs to be pressurized to over 6 bar to achieve a sufficiently strong foam.spikplanka said:

Yep, the strength feels like a big question mark. One should probably see the technique primarily for creating insulating walls that aren't necessarily load-bearing.
But an alternative is dustcrete= mix sawdust with cement, then plaster it on the outside. Also not a "load-bearing" solution. But it can probably be practical in certain contexts.
Other alternatives I've found:
Eps concrete= mix styrofoam/polystyrene with cement.
Lightweight concrete= mix in aluminum oxide powder or zinc powder 0.5 units to 1 unit of cement, limestone, and dish detergent and voila! But the question is if it becomes a particularly cheap solution, as aluminum/zinc powder is incredibly expensive.
It's probably a considerable challenge to achieve an even and consistent mix and good control over the size of the air bubbles. It's a bit like when you need to fold whipped egg whites into a batter to make it fluffy. Everyone who's done it knows it's not just about stirring them together.spikplanka said:
