I am going to install a floor in the attic so I can store some things there. The joists are 120 c/c in the attic. Is it okay to just lay 22mm chipboard flooring? Or is 120 c/c too far apart?

It will be too long, it should be cc60 for floor chipboard. Of course, it would hold a few boxes of clothes or so, but I don't think chipboard has a particularly pleasant character when you're on the verge of what it can withstand; either it holds or it collapses. Planks flex and you have a better sense of how much you dare to load...

I have laid chipboard flooring as a walkway in the attic, with cc 1200 between the rafters. It is sufficient for crawling on and for the items I have for long-term storage in the attic.

Why not use raw boards, like on a roof, with the planed side up.

They're usually sturdy enough to walk around on with cc 1200.

I have the same idea about laying flooring in the attic, and now when I read that 1200 is too much maybe it can work in an attic with a gap of 960, or?

Otherwise it will be råspont....
