In the midst of all the planning, I started thinking:
How do you know what type of construction you have in the floor? I have just assumed that it is concrete, but are there several layers over it before the vinyl flooring is applied?
The house is from '61 and brick built, even on the inside. But what about the floor? I unscrewed a threshold to push down an antenna cable when we moved in, and then I found gravel underneath. What does that mean?

Thank you kindly for the response. I would like to understand everything, so I thought this was a good place to ask. I have also sent a question to the board, but I am unsure whom to contact there. By the way, it's a cooperative apartment we have, so there will be some work I need to learn how to do myself.

There is a book called "så byggdes husen" that might be helpful here. It is a good review of different construction techniques and detail solutions over the past 100 years...

I know that in the 50s and 60s, floors were sometimes laid "floating" on some dm of coke ash... maybe that's what you've come across?

Through the board, you can probably easily get hold of a drawing that can provide some clarity!

ok, thank you so much!

It is also not entirely uncommon for it to be cast in the bottom, then framed with a subfloor, and lastly a plastic mat. Then he fills between the framing with something suitable that insulates a little.
