Hello!
Considering a terrace railing (of a traditional model)
The length of one of the railings is about 4m. (implies 3 posts?) (planning for 3 railings with a similar design)
e.g.
Thoughts: 1) Fastening the posts to the patio.
Since the base is made of metal, roofing felt, and insulation, it's 300mm to wood/concrete.
This complicates attaching the posts to the "floor."
I haven't decided if this railing should be angled or just a length (which affects the fastening below). One side of the railing will be attached to the wall. (I want the post as close to the "floor" as possible)
What options do I have?
2) Beam shoes for railings.
Some of the railings are in quite an exposed location during winter. I'm wondering if there are beam shoes that make it "easy" to remove the railing during winter. (also easier to possibly shovel snow...)
Which beam shoes should I choose so they don't rust? - (I don't know right now which size would fit)
Will galvanic currents occur if the post is impregnated? (pressure-treated contains some metals)
3) Post lighting
I'm considering putting posts on the sides of the patio where there is no railing. But I'm looking for some nice LED lighting at the top. Any suggestions?
4) Posts for the terrace railing
Which posts last the longest? Should one choose a solid post? (and drill a hole for electrical wiring)
5) Material for the terrace railing
As mentioned, I'm considering a wooden terrace railing.
From what I understand, the problem with the boards (top/bottom boards) is that they are painted from all sides. (with the risk of moisture being trapped)
Does quality matter? (or is it an "impossible" project - just to replace)
Can impregnated wood be painted?
How should the boards be treated (before painting)?
