Hello! I have searched through various stores for a solution to a small problem with a construction. I'm building a pergola, but I have a corner without a post, where I need to hang a joist under another joist at an angle. This joist is mostly for appearance's sake, to make the look symmetrical. However, I can't find a good bracket instead of using screws. Aren't there brackets that look like a long flat bar twisted 90 degrees in the middle, or a joist hanger with very long arms? A splice plate could work, but I would like to find something more attractive. Hope you understand what I mean. Feel free to link to a product.
Stole a picture from the internet. Imagine the post is missing, it is located further away, but at the arrow, I want to attach the lower joist to the upper one with some sort of metal.
Check out Växeljörn and different ridge fittings, they handle the 90 degree angle at two heights.
Thanks, I found some ridge fittings before, but they look a bit rounded, but I think they should actually work, maybe I can hammer one into shape, awesome, thanks! Now that I searched for Växeljärn, I also found gaffelankare, seems like that is also an option. It's so much easier when you know what things are called!
In the picture, maybe not yours, the beams are not notched into the post, it looks more like a makeshift solution now. Then you only need one diagonal brace for sideways stabilization towards the inside. With notching the same dimensions as the beams, there will be no weaker fastening and no weakening of the post either.
In the picture, maybe not yours, the load-bearing beams are not notched into the post, looks more like a temporary fix now. Then you only need one diagonal brace for lateral movement towards the inside. With notching the same dimensions as the boards, it won't weaken the connection and won't weaken the post either.
I will notch in💪
