Fix misplaced box holes

Is it possible to fix this nicely or is it just a matter of getting a new board and redoing it?

Carve out a little more, fill with something like putty. Plaster would have been ideal if you had it available at home, I would probably say.

Or cut out a smaller piece, put a new piece there and drill a new hole in it.

30x30cm should be enough. You can indulge with some plyfa behind the joint so it holds well.
