Am I on the right thread now?
Otherwise, can someone let me know...

Can you build an open fireplace in your living room yourself?
We have a perfect spot in the middle of the house where the chimney stack is.
It seems to have 3 channels. (I don't know ANYTHING about this sort of thing, but I
think that's how it was...)

The foundation must be stabilized due to the weight, right?
We plan to have it just for the coziness factor since we heat
with wood.
It must be significantly simpler than a tiled stove because
it should have different layers to retain heat?

Anyone know? As long as you have the right materials, it should
work, right?
Grateful for any tips!

Yes, it is possible to build an open fireplace yourself, depending on how "skilled" you are. Depending on the weight, you may need to create a foundation for it to stand on. I'm considering installing a fireplace and got the suggestion from a relative who is a bricklayer to build an open fireplace and insert an insert.
