I need to replace the door to our boiler room; the door opening has quite unusual dimensions (about 85x175cm). I'm considering building my own fire door but I'm a bit unsure how to go about it.
I'm thinking of something like this (from the boiler room and outwards):
Minerit board
Frame of steel studs 45x45mm
Stone wool insulation 45mm
Minerit board
Beadboard panel
Frame of sheet metal profiles
It's sure to be wonderfully heavy... What do you think, would this do?

I think it's a 30-minute door that I need. When someone came and did the fire inspection, he said it would be enough to mount a minerit board on the old plank door with asbestos boards (it's quite shabby...) that's been there since the 40s.
Maybe it would work to build the frame in wood, 45x45 or 45x95, surely that construction should hold EI30?? It would definitely be much more for any fire to get through than the old door.

Sounds like a big job to build a completely new door. For the neighbor, it was enough to screw a sheet of metal on one side of the door for it to suffice, and then it looked better too.
Well, you might be right about that. But the door is pretty worn out and the basement needs tidying up, so a new door it is. Maybe it's better to buy a regular interior door, cut it to the right height, and cover the inside with a minerite board.

Check with the recycling companies if you can get hold of a used one from a government building or similar. They are usually at least EI30, and then you can cover it with something nice on the visible side.
