fine and coarse threads

I need a thing that is finely threaded on one end (for a wing nut) and coarsely threaded on the other (for screwing into wood). What should I search for?

Search at plumbing stores, they usually have it, I think I bought it from bynor.

Stupid question, but are these types of screw studs something commonly used in plumbing or can they just have them anyway?

The alternative is to go up to M8, but that feels so coarse compared to the slats they are supposed to hold.
