Hello. We are planning to install a wooden shingle roof on the house we are going to build. Our roof has a 45-degree angle and the shingles need to be 5.1 meters long. We have contacted two companies on Gotland that supply Gotland's heart pine, which is said to be particularly slow-growing and resistant to rot, but their shingles are a maximum of 4.80 m. This means we would need to splice the shingles, which we prefer to avoid. We would love to get tips on sawmills that can deliver longer shingles with good quality. Grateful for tips on where we can turn. Attached is an inspiration image. A red house with a pitched metal roof, featuring skylights and solar panels, surrounded by a garden and trees under a blue sky. Thanks!

Should be possible to glue joints to the correct lengths, perhaps the sawmills can fix it, probably expensive unfortunately...

Hello. Thank you for your response, but I don't think gluing is an option; we'd prefer to try to find long falor. They do exist, of course, but the question is, what is the quality of the timber?

Where is the 4.8m limitation located?

the planing mill/sawmill... etc?

Can you find heart pine that is longer and have the planing mill make falor?

Hi. I believe it's the timber itself that's hard to come by. At least if it needs to be Gotland heart pine. I've understood that it's difficult to get those lengths on Gotland. I've heard there are sawmills in Norrland that can deliver. I don't know about the quality and I don't have any name suggestions for sawmills. Of course, I can look up sawmills and ask, but I wanted to ask in this forum first in case anyone has a tip.

Fun with more faltaksbyggare!
I'm currently applying black tar to our falor that we received from Åttersta Såg outside Sandviken. Ours are 4.80 and I know he had some trouble finding timber of the right quality and length for us, so 5.1 lengths might be tough. Of course, they exist, but it may take some time for a sawmill to gather the amount of logs needed. So my advice is to plan ahead and call around to more sawmills!

Great, thanks for the response. I will contact Åttersta såg and see what they say. It sure is nice with faltak!! I can't wait until the house is in place.

If it's on Gotland, you can also try to contact the smaller sawmills that still cut their own timber themselves. PM if you want some tips that might work.
