When we were setting up our log house, we had to order the first row of logs from the sawmill. 20x20 cm in lengths of 4.5 meters. I don't have the price in mind, but it wasn't too expensive. [smiley=wink.gif]
we have two long logs left from our construction... they were left over.
I think they are about 4 inches

Hello!
False beams are incredibly stylish and we have several of them
A great and simple way to make them is to put together 3 planks into a U shape (nail and glue), then carve and whittle the edges until they have a suitably "old angular look". Put extra energy into the corners where you joined the planks... and then paint them or stain them or whatever you feel like. We painted ours black and put them up
I should point out that I looked at false beams in a paint shop and they were ridiculously expensive! They would cost xx thousand for all the beams... and they were only made of styrofoam...
(admittedly they have different sizes and different prices but we wanted something big and solid that looked as real as possible)...
Whatever you choose...
Good luck, they look great
Best regards, Sandra

What have you used for dimension on the boards when you have made your own version of the roof beam? How do you get it up once you have made them??
I agree Bauhaus flygolit stuff is expensive and it's also adapted to be attached to an existing stud as I understand it. And if you don't have an existing one, it becomes difficult ;D

The faux beams in polystyrene material should NOT be mounted on any existing joists. They should be glued to the ceiling. They weigh nothing, a maximum of one hectogram for a 4-meter beam, so regular assembly adhesive in a tube works perfectly.
I built a faux beam using two 22 x 95 råplan on each side of a 45 x 45 regel nailed and glued (these then form an inverted U in cross-section). I screwed this up to the ceiling through the regel. Finally, I covered the opening in the U with another 22 x 95 råplan (nailed). These dimensions aren't quite exact, so you can either plane a bit, tilt the boards outward a few mm, or just leave it as is.Hobbysnickarn said:
Finally, I stained it all with a really dark stain. Neat and very simple. (at least I think so!)
