Hello. I have a house from 1924 that has fiber cement sheets on the exterior walls. I will now remove them and replace them with new 45 insulation and wood paneling. See image 1. I am considering horizontal paneling on the lower part, then vertical on the upper part. See image 2. I have a few questions about this.

  • 1: Should I use different types of paneling for the vertical/horizontal sections, and which panel type do you recommend? Please include a link as a reference.
  • 2: How do I make the trim that separates the vertical and horizontal sections of the wall? Anything to consider here to prevent water from seeping behind the paneling.
  • 3. How should I think about the trim around the windows as they will remain in their current positions?
If anyone has some input on my thoughts, I would be very grateful.

Best regards, Espen
