Hello,
We are in the process of replacing the siding on a house from the 70s (horizontal fjällpanel) and simultaneously creating an air gap since the current structure lacks one. The question is how best to handle the two stone staircases on the house. The staircases seem to be constructed so that they rest against the foundation at the bottom, and then have a gap higher up where previously a siding board ran (I assume to protect the sill), followed by a drip cap/protection on the outside. The problem now is that with the new air gap, we miss the groove in the staircase. So what should we do?
Option 1: Try to increase the gap. For example, by trying to chip away parts.
Option 2: Remove the staircase and build a new one. But how do you remove the staircase without damaging the foundation?
Or does anyone have thoughts on how to install the siding and keep the staircase as is?
Grateful for any thoughts!
