We are currently doing a complete renovation of a house built in the '30s and extended in the '75. The exterior panel will be replaced in just over a year when the interior is completely finished. We are now replacing windows as we renovate the rooms. We have only opened the wall in the extended part, and it is built as follows from the outside in:

Vertical lock panel 1”4
Asfaboard
1” air gap with the help of horizontal battens
4” glass wool insulation
12 mm chipboard

It is a self-build by previous owners with friends. It pulls quite a bit in some places so I suspect poor insulation transitions. And the air gap between the insulation and the asfaboard, I don't understand.
Question: when I replace the panel, it's just as well to tear down both it and the asfaboard to add new wind protection against the insulation and outside it an air gap and tongue-and-groove panel. Or how would you have done it?

Yes, that makes sense.
