I spliced a similar pipe in my chimney in 2012, according to the chimney sweep it was allowed to be spliced at one place in the chimney. I used acid-resistant sheet metal that was rolled up to fit in the hose and then we riveted the parts together with stainless steel rivets, it was approved. Good luck
