we're going to look at a house with raised walls and floors in the basement, sealed surfaces directly on the foundation wall, etc., and an "unusual smell" is noted according to the report, as well as lime deposits, etc. It also mentions that the wall, floor construction, and "possible sills" could be subject to damage. In the core holes in the floor, there are plastic mats, chipboard flooring, insulation, plastic sheet, and concrete slab.
We are fully prepared to tear everything out and install ventilated floors, etc. But it would be nice to know if there are no embedded sills, which would complicate things further.
This is what the building permit documents from the construction look like. It appears (doesn't it) that there are no sills in the foundation? Or what does the expertise in this forum say?
