Efflorescence facade (concrete)
Very sad pictures that make you want to cry! Have they enclosed damp walls with some hocus-pocus paint/impregnation before the plaster/mortar had time to mature... on the shady sides of the house? Silicone impregnation? It would still be good to know why such misery has occurred so that the same mistake is not repeated.
What can be clearly seen in the pictures is that the brick facade has cracked, allowing rainwater to make its way in, on the plastered facade (if it is plastered), you can see many cracks where the water has been able to get behind the paint.G gaia said:Very sad pictures that make you want to cry!

If it is impregnated with silicone impregnation it would be really unfortunate, but then again the plaster might be easy to scrape off. But every builder should know that concrete and plaster are impregnated with silane these days. 🙂

Should one impregnate plaster/new plaster?P PatrikBL said:What one can see for sure in the pictures is that the brick facade has cracked, so driving rain may have found its way in there. Must be the most foolish thing I've heard in a long time.
New plaster on a lime-based facade can have a lifespan of up to 100 years.
Because it is diffusion-open, impregnating the facade kills the plaster.
And you get a lifespan of maybe 20-30 years.
No, you "should" not normally unless the house is located where it would be beneficial.N neo11 said:
What didn't you understand about, if you should impregnate, it should be done with silane and not silicone.
You do know that there are other types of plaster besides lime plaster?🙃
For your own sake, read up before you write.
FYI, Silane impregnation is diffusion-open.

I say the same, read up before you write.
What is it you don't understand and what type of usage are you referring to for impregnation?
You don't use impregnation in any form on lime mortar or kc mortar in ordinary conditions.
It is suggested to paint with lime paint, but if it's near lakes or exposed, silicate might be better.
Why would one even consider applying it, what is gained? More than harm!
